Through refraction, as designers and researchers, we can expand beyond the institutional frames and their restrictions, embracing constant changes and shifts in our understanding of graphic design, design education, and design discourse – focusing on how knowledge and experiences can be fragmented and redirected.

In the spirit of expanding beyond traditional frames of design and research, the symposium and book launch presented a short series of talks, conversations, and reflections by MAGMD graduates and practitioners.

‘Reinterpreting (Re)fraction’ is a workshop rooted in the core concepts of the ALWFAV 8 publication. Bringing together MA students from different courses, it explored how ideas intersect and evolve through conversation and collaboration. The process culminates in a final zine, capturing written and visual outcomes that refract one another’s perspectives.
